Another two women die from COVID-19; 84 new cases

Two women, aged 56 and 62, who lived in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) are the country’s latest COVID-19 related deaths.

With these two deaths, the country’s COVID-19 death toll has increased to 553; it means that for the month of August so far, seven people have died.

The Ministry of Health in a statement revealed that both patients died while receiving medical care at a facility.

Meanwhile, 84 new infections were recorded from 1,236 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March, 2020, to 22,789.

The new infections were recorded in: Region Three (25 cases), Region Four (40 cases), Region Five (one case), Region Six (seven cases), Region Seven (two cases), Region Nine (six cases) and Region 10 (three cases).

There are 13 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 89 patients are in institutional isolation, 661 are isolated at home and three persons are in institutional quarantine.

To date, 21,473 persons have recovered from the dreaded virus.
