Licence plate left behind in hit and run; pedestrian badly injured

A licence plate – PZZ 1276 – was left at the scene of a hit and run accident Friday morning along the Railway Embankment at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters in a statement reported that a male pedestrian, who appears to be about 60-year-old was badly injured in the accident.

Police said it appears that the pedestrian was walking along the southern side of the Railway Embankment at about 02:30h when he was struck down by a motor vehicle that was proceeding in an unknown direction, and later drove away.

The pedestrian was picked up by Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) personnel in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

He is admitted in the Accident Emergency Unit Critical Bay suffering from broken legs and lacerations to the head and about the body.

Investigations are ongoing.
