    Women, 55 and 79, are latest COVID deaths; 89 new cases recorded

    A 55-year-old woman from Region #6 (East Berbice-Corentyne) and a 79-year-old woman from Region #4 (Demerara-Mahaica) have been recorded as the country’s latest COVID-19 related deaths.

    With these deaths, the country’s COVID-19 death toll has increased to 556; it means that for the month of August so far, 10 people have died.

    The Ministry of Health in a statement revealed that the patients died while receiving medical care at a facility.

    Meanwhile, 89 new infections were recorded from 1, 535 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March, 2020, to 22,932.

    The new infections were recorded in: Region Three (11 cases), Region Four (55 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (nine cases) and Region Nine (10 cases) and Region Ten (one case).

    There are 18 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 90 patients are in institutional isolation, 698 are isolated at home and five persons are in institutional quarantine.

    To date, 21,570 persons have recovered from the dreaded virus.
