Police have made a major breakthrough in their investigations into the multi-million-dollar gold heist at a Gordon Street, Kitty, enterprise, Crime Chief Wendel Blanhum told the News Room on Sunday.

Blanhum also confirmed that three persons are now in police custody.

He would provide no other information but said the investigations were still ongoing.

Three armed men carried out the robbery on Thursday last, carting off over $38 million in local currency and $20 million worth in raw gold.

But the News Room has seen a video which suggests that one of the persons in custody is a serving member of the Guyana Defence Force.

The video shows a parcel being dug up from the ground and upon inspection it was found to be money buried in a small white bucket.

Initially, a security guard was arrested and was assisting with investigations.

A police release detailed that a 45-year-old goldsmith and a 20-year-old cashier were at work at Wallison Enterprise, Lot 23, Gordon Street, Kitty, when the bandits entered at 10:05hrs on Thursday.

Police said the three suspects came with a white car and parked it north of the building and entered the compound, through the main gate.

They reportedly indicated to the security guard that they were there to sell gold, before entering.

Police said the armed suspects then entered the waiting area where they spoke to the cashier and showed her a small package, which they claimed contained the gold to be sold.

Immediately after the suspects drew their firearms and ordered her into an office where the money and gold were secured.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras.

Investigations are ongoing.

No mastermind was involved in the crime. Not mentally lazy……just physically lazy and did not want to wuk for money. Time to bring back hard labour and rock breaking in the prison system. Consider it character building and preparation for wuk once released.
