Kevin Mohan, called ‘Chucky’, was on Monday found guilty of murdering of his aunt in 2016.

Mohan, 27, formerly of Fifth Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, was on trial before Justice Sandil Kissoon for the September 4, 2016 murder of his aunt, 48-year-old Anita Mohan – during a robbery at her Cummings Lodge home.

On Monday afternoon, after deliberating for almost two hours at the High Court Tuesday, the jury returned with a guilty verdict against Mohan.

“I get jail innocent! The only person that can judge me is the almighty Allah,” Mohan told the court after the jury delivered their verdict.

The matter is adjourned to August 26, for a probation report and sentencing.

He was represented by attorney Damian DaSilva, while prosecutors Taneisha Saygon, Lisa Cave and Muntaz Ali represented the state.

Mohan was first tried for the capital offence in March before Justice Navindra Kissoon, however, the jury failed to reach a verdict which resulted in a retrial.

A bloody rolling pin, along with a broken beer bottle, was found near the body.

Kevin Mohan was arrested by police since he lived with this aunt and had access to the home.

He allegedly confessed to the murder and told police that he committed the crime with the help of an accomplice.

A post mortem examination performed on the woman’s remains revealed that she died from multiple injuries.
