Men, 26 and 66, are latest COVID deaths; 12 new cases recorded

A 26-year-old man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) and a 66-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) have been recorded as the country’s latest COVID-19 related deaths.

With these deaths, the country’s COVID-19 death toll has increased to 561; it means that for the month of August so far, 15 people have died.

The Ministry of Health in a statement revealed that the patients died while receiving medical care at a facility.

Meanwhile, 12 new infections were recorded from 380 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March, 2020, to 22,932.

The new infections were recorded in: Region Three (six cases), Region Four (four cases) and Region Six (two cases).

There are 19 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 86 patients are in institutional isolation, 691 are isolated at home and six persons are in institutional quarantine.

To date, 21,637 persons have recovered from the dreaded virus.
