A search carried out on a 24-year-old convicted prisoner at the New Amsterdam Prison on Monday uncovered a small quantity of cannabis.
Police said that members of the Prison’s Task Force conducted the search at around 17:30 hrs on the prisoner who is serving a 12 months sentence for simple larceny.
During the search, police said a black plastic bag was found in his long boots; the bag contained five transparent plastic bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in the presence of the convict and amounted to 144 grams.
The matter was reported to the police at Central Police Station.
