    Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 569 on Thursday after the Health Ministry released information on the deaths of two persons; a 64-year-old woman from Region Six  (East Berbice-Corentyne) and a 51-year-old from Region Three (Essequibo Islands – West Demerara).

    They both died while receiving care at at medical facility.

    Their deaths also mean that for the month of August a total of 23 persons died from the dreaded virus. Meanwhile, 88 new infections were recorded from a total of 1,411 tests.

    This pushes the overall number of confirmed infections to 23,244. The new cases were recorded in Region One (six new cases), Region Two (one case), Region Three (nine cases), Region Four (40 cases), Region Five (five new cases), Region Six (nine new cases), Region Seven (17 new cases) and Region Ten (one new case).

    Sixteen patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital while 80 are in institutional isolation and 731 are in home isolation.
