A 75-year-old woman who lived alone at James Street, Rampoor Springlands, Corriverton Berbice was on Thursday found dead in her bedroom.
Police identified the woman as Barah Matthews called ‘Patsy’.
According to her son Peter Matthews, he last saw his mother alive and well on Monday about 13:00hrs at her home, where they spoke for a while.
Three days later, on Thursday, he made several phone calls via cell phone but all went unanswered throughout the day.
About 21:50 hrs he went to her residence where he found the entire house was secured from the inside and after making several calls he used force to enter where he found her lying face up in her bedroom motionless.
The matter was later reported to the police who observed that the now deceased body was in a highly decomposed state.
It was then escorted to the Skeldon Public Hospital where it was certified dead by a doctor on duty before being taken to the Anthony’s Funeral Home and placed in a cold storage awaiting an autopsy.
