Taxi driver stabbed over claims he was having an affair with man’s wife

A 36-year-old hire car driver was on Thursday stabbed several times by a man who claimed he was having an affair with his wife.

Police said the incident occurred at Train Line Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to a statement from Police Headquarters, the taxi driver and another male were at Yala’s shop at about 21:00 hours playing Superbet and imbibing when the accused approached and claimed that the victim was having an affair with his wife.

The suspect then pulled something from his waist and stabbed the taxi driver to his left arm, his abdomen and his chest and ran away.

The victim was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was seen and medically examined by a doctor on duty who transferred him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was admitted a patient in a stable condition.

Checks were made for the suspect but he could not be found, police said.
