August COVID-19 death toll rises to 25; 106 new cases

A 38-year-old man from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) is the country’s latest COVID-19 fatality, taking the number of deaths recorded in August so far to 28.

The Ministry of Health reported that the man died while receiving care in a medical facility. With his death, also, Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 574.

Meanwhile, 106 new infections were recorded over a 24-hour period, pushing the overall number of confirmed infections to 23,561

The new cases were recorded in Region One (four new cases), Region Two (two cases), Region Three (11 cases), Region Four (77 cases), Region Six (five cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Nine (one case) and Region Ten (five cases).

Sixteen patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital while 81 are in institutional isolation, 941 are in home isolation and four in institutional quarantine.

Another 19 people who were previously infected have recovered; a total of 21,946 people have recovered.
