A brand new solar drying facility will soon be constructed in Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).

The Ministry of Agriculture on Monday awarded the contract to Grimmond Electrical and Transportation Services at a cost of $2,563,292 under the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC).

The facility will aid agro-processors with the dehydration of fruits, provision and vegetables, which can be converted to flours or even packaged for sale in its dried form.

Further, the facility will also help agro-processors from the area to diversify their current practices and also help to extend the shelf life of their commodities, contributing to food security.
