    Four more persons who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. This take’s the country’s death toll to 582 and also means that for the month of August, 36 people died.

    The four latest deaths were recorded on August 15. The patients died while receiving care at a medical facility. The latest fatalities are two women aged 34 and 44 from Region Three (Essequibo Islands – West Demerara) and two other women aged 70 and 71 from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

    Meanwhile, 100 new infections were recorded on Tuesday from 2, 010 tests. This means that the overall number of confirmed cases in Guyana since March last year is 23, 675.

    The new infections were recorded in: Region One (one new case); Region Three (13 new cases); Region Four (66 new cases); Region Five (three new cases); Region Six (five new cases); Region Seven (two new cases); Region Nine (six new cases) and Region Nine (four new cases).

    A total of 51 new recoveries from the virus were also reported, taking the total number of recovered cases to 22, 050.

    There are 12 patients in the COVID-19 ICU at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 91 patients are in institutional isolation and 940 patients are in home isolation.
