The agro-processing and packaging facility at Parika, Region Three (Essequibo Island-West Demerara), is set to undergo $20 million in upgrades, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Monday.

Pacific Service System was awarded the contract, to provide a certified environment for new and existing agro-processors.

The facility will be equipped with more modern agro-processing equipment that will be used to convert raw food into process foods.

This facility is part and parcel of the Agriculture Ministry’s push to assist farmers with adding value to their produce.

Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha had said that the agro-processing facility will function both for commercial production and product development for small and medium agro-processors.

Further, more of these facilities will be constructed as government intends to ensure farmers are able to add value to their produce while encouraging them to advance from subsistence farming.
