A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after being accused of removing US$800 from his neighbour’s house at Plantation Westminster, West Bank Demerara.
Police said the theft occurred sometime between 21:15hrs on Tuesday and 00:30hrs on Wednesday.
The victim, a 48-year-old policewoman, alleged that she secured her home and retired to bed earlier in the evening, but she was awakened in the wee hours to discover her door ajar.
Her purse containing the cash and other important documents were also missing. She then alerted her son, who was sleeping in his bedroom, and raised an alarm.
The teen suspect, who is her neighbour and is said to be a known character within the community, was arrested and is presently in custody assisting with the investigations.
