Armed men rob goldsmith, customers of millions in gold jewellery, cash

Armed bandits struck another gold establishment, this time at DaSilva Street, Newtown, Kitty, carting off millions in gold jewelry, cash and electronics from a goldsmith and his customers.

According to the police report, the robbery took place on Wednesday, sometime around 20:45hrs.

The 40-year-old goldsmith was at his establishment with five customers waiting to uplift their jewelry when three suspects armed with handguns entered, held them at gunpoint and demanded that they hand over “everything.”

The goldsmith and his customers all complied with the directive.

While one of the armed bandits stayed with the customers outside, the others forced the goldsmith into his establishment at gunpoint to retrieve the remaining gold jewelry.

The suspects then escaped on two motorcycles with the registration and numbers unknown.

Police said the men carted off $1.2 million in gold jewelry from the goldsmith. The men relieved the customers of one gold chain valued $70,000; one silver chain valued $30,000; one gold chain valued $40,000; five gold rings valued $400,000; one silver and gold band valued $30,000; two gold anklets valued $200,000; two gold chains valued $80,000; one pair gold bangles valued $190,000; two gold bands valued $180,000 and also one pair gold Jingles valued $120,000.

Additionally, the suspects escaped with $180,000 in local currency; one female handbag containing US$2,200; one black J7 cellphone and one black LG cellphone valued $40,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
