Region Five man is latest COVID-19 death; 141 new infections

A 35-year-old man from Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) is the newest COVID-19 death reported by the Ministry of Health on Thursday. The man died on August 18.

With his death, 42 deaths have been recorded thus far in August, while 588 deaths have been recorded since the pandemic started in March, 2020.

Meanwhile, 141 new infections were recorded over a 24-hour period, pushing the overall number of confirmed infections to 23,936.

The new cases were recorded in Region One (one case), Region Two (18 cases), Region Three (35 cases), Region Four (75 cases), Region Five (two cases), Region Six (four cases), Region Seven (one cases) and Region Nine (five cases).

Fifteen patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, while 92 are in institutional isolation; 1,048 are in home isolation and two in institutional quarantine.

A total of 22,193 people have recovered.
