Twenty-five-year-old Akeem Martin of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden, Region 10 was on Thursday shot in the leg by police officers after he reportedly attacked ranks on South Road, Lacytown, Georgetown.
Police said that around 16:30hrs, two armed ranks were on motorcycle patrol along Croal Street when they heard loud shouts of “thief!” from a woman who was being attacked by a man; the man was attempting to relieve her of her cellphone.
“Upon being challenged by the police. the assailant, who was later identified as Akeem Martin, attempted to escape but was pursued by the ranks who caught up with him along South Road.
“…he pulled out a knife and attacked one of the ranks who shot him to his foot,” the police report said.
Martin was then admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is under police guard.
