Cyclist critically injured in Meten-Meer-Zorg accident

A 56-year-old man is in a critical condition and is nursing serious injuries to his head following an accident on Friday night along the Meten-Meer-Zorg Public Road, West Coast Demerara.

Police said the accident involved a car driven by Khemraj Hira, 23, of Mc Watt Street Vergenogen, East Bank Essequibo and pedal cyclist Harrychand Dhanraj, 56, of Prem Nagar East Meten-Meer-Zorg.

According to a statement released by Police Headquarters, the car was proceeding along the road at around 19:00hrs when Dhanraj rode out of Water Pump Street onto the public road and continued riding across the road in a zig-zag manner.

As a result, the front portion of the car collided with the bicycle. Dhanraj fell onto the bonnet and the front windscreen of the car and then unto the corner of the road where he received wounds to his head and foot.

He was picked up in a conscious condition by the driver of the car and taken to Leonora Cottage Hospital and later transferred to West Demerara Regional Hospital where he is admitted as a patient in a critical condition.
