The Rotary Club of Georgetown has once again responded to the floods in Guyana, this time providing relief to the several communities in Pomeroon, Region 2.
Through a donation and collaboration with ECI Guyana the club distributed 350 hampers to residents in the villages of Jacklow, Siriki, Abrams Creek, Warapana and Aripiaco.
The CEO of ECI Mr. Samuel Barakat stated “I was privileged to work with Rotary for this project. It was a donation for the club to choose a project, from their track record for decades of service above self to the highest standards, we were more than gratified that the Pomeroon was selected.
Having grown up there, I know the severity and frequency of the floods the farmers and the community endures. Wish if it can be done every month. It will take years to recover from the losses of their lifelong toils. The Rotary execution of the project was perfect. Thanks to the region and Regional Chairwoman Ms. Vilma Da Silva and her team to assist with touching at least 1000 lives in need and well deserved.
The President of the Club, Mrs. Ramona Singh said that “club is happy to have provided much needed food supplies to families in these communities who have been displaced. The economic loss we have witnessed and the disruption of people’s livelihoods will require much more intervention. To this end the Club will continue to conduct needs assessment to determine future short term assistance and long term rebuilding”.
