    Guyana on Tuesday recorded four additional COVID-19 deaths taking the death toll to 601 since March 2020.

    The latest fatalities also mean that for August, 54 persons have died thus far.

    The latest fatalities are two women, a 93-year-old from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) and an 80-year-old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). The two women died on August 22, while two men, an 83-year-old from Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice) died on August 20 and a 52-year-old from Region Four who died on August 22.

    The Ministry of Health in a statement reported that all four patients died while receiving treatment at a medical facility.

    Meanwhile, the country on Tuesday recorded 134 new infections from 1, 917 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 24, 506.

    Region Two (two new cases), Region Three (25 new cases), Region Four (77 new cases), Region Five (five new cases), Region Six (11 new cases), Region Seven (five new cases), Region Eight (one new case), Region Nine (four new cases) and Region Ten (four new cases).

    According to the Health Ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard, 22 patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 96 patients are in institutional isolation, and 1, 325 are in home isolation.

    To date, 22, 462 persons have recovered from the dreaded virus.
