Young soldier dies after losing control of speeding car

A 26-year-old member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) died on Tuesday after he lost control of his black and silver car PLL 6077.

Wilmot Warde of Central Amelia’s Ward in Linden was reportedly speeding at the time of the accident, which occurred at the Hauraruni Public Road along the Soesdyke Linden Highway, according to a police report.

Police said at about 07:10 hrs, Warde was speeding along the western side of the road heading north when he lost control and flung out of the car. He was picked up by public-spirited citizens in a semi-conscious condition and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.

He later died while receiving medical treatment. Investigations are ongoing.
