The three men who were caught with four blank COVID-19 vaccination books on Tuesday have been identified as employees of the West Demerara Regional Hospital at Vreed-en-Hoop on the West Coast of Demerara.

As a matter of fact, one of them is a driver, who was responsible for picking up COVID-19 books from the Ministry of Health in Georgetown and take them to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Further investigations by the police on Wednesday led to the discovery of seven more blank ‘blue books’ which were hidden in the compartment between the driver and passenger’s seat of minibus PWW 3747 – the same minibus driven by one of the suspects.

When the additional vaccine books were brought to the attention of the suspects, “they bowed their heads and remained silent,” Police Headquarters revealed in a statement late Wednesday.

According to the police report, the driver of the minibus claimed that he took out 12 of the blank vaccine books from one of the deliveries he made.

“Further investigations led to a nurse being interviewed who denied that the signature on one of the books found in the suspects’ possession and allegedly signed by her, was not hers. Further investigations are being conducted,” the police said.
