Police are searching for a 17-year-old boy who allegedly set his grandmother’s house on fire following a misunderstanding at their No. 60 Village, Corentyne Berbice house on Thursday morning.

The News Room understands that the grandmother upbraided the teenager about his behaviour during which an argument ensued, however, the grandmother subsequently left the house.

The teen reportedly used the opportunity to set the two-bedroom wooden building on fire. Police said a kerosene stove was lit and placed under the grandmother’s bed. The flames quickly engulfed the mattress and destroyed the house within minutes. Nothing could be saved and no-one was injured.

The area was canvassed for CCTV camera in the area but none was seen and checks were made for the suspect but he was not located, police said.

Meanwhile, the News Room was informed that the fire service did not show up to the scene; it is unclear if they were contacted.
