28-Y-O old man among 3 COVID deaths; 103 new cases recorded

A 28-year-old man, a 67-year-old woman from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), and a 72-year-old man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands – West Demerara) are the country’s latest COVID-19 death.

The Ministry of Health on Friday in a statement said the patients died on August 25 while receiving medical care at a facility. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 609, with 62 deaths recorded this month so far.

The ministry also reported 103 new COVID-19 infections from 1, 719 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 24, 967.

The new cases were recorded in; Region Three (three cases), Region Two (four cases), Region Three (20 cases), Region Four (56 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (two cases), Region Seven (seven cases), Region Eight (two cases), Region Nine (one new case) and Region Ten (five cases).

There are 22 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 105 patients are in institutional isolation and 1, 555 are in home isolation.

To date, 22, 676 persons have recovered from the virus.
