As COVID-19 infections continue to rise in Guyana, a number of areas have been identified as COVID-19 hotspots.
Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony in his daily COVID-19 update on Friday released data on the following locations; Tuschen in Region Three (23 cases); East Bank Demerara – Diamond (39 cases), Golden Grove (31 cases) and Timehri (27 cases). On the East Coast of Demerara – Better Hope (21 cases) and Cummings Lodge (28 cases); and in Georgetown – Sophia (45 cases), Kitty (35 cases), South Ruimveldt (32 cases), Campbellville (32 cases) and Lodge (28 cases).
In Region Six, New Amsterdam there are 30 active cases; in Bartica, Region Seven 33 cases and in Miruwau, Region Nine 35 cases. Dr Anthony revealed that within the last 24 hours 106 new infections were recorded. This means that there 1, 690 active cases across the country.
“Our hospitalisation rates are going up; currently we have 102 persons in the hospital. At Ocean View, we have 76 persons and the other persons are dispersed in other regional hospitals,” the minister said.
With 22 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Dr Anthony is urging persons to take more precautions and get vaccinated.
