The Chief Education Officer (CEO) Dr. Marcel Hutson says that the results of this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) may be made available by the end of October.

He said this while providing brief remarks at a press conference held at the National Centre for Educational Resources Development (NCERD) on the reopening of schools.

This year’s NGSA, which is Guyana’s secondary entrance examination, was written on August 4 and 5.  And, the marking of the children’s scripts got underway on August 18, according to a release from the Ministry of Education.

On Friday, Dr. Hutson assured Grade Six teachers that they would be given extra holiday time and would return to schools until October since they taught students throughout the holiday period.

Then too, he stated, “We have students who will be awaiting their results of the examination and those may not be out until somewhere around the end of October…”

While the children await the results of those examinations, he said that the children will be engaged through the Guyana Learning Channel and through Zoom meetings. Therein, they will be exposed to content that would enable them to make the transition into secondary schools.

Meanwhile, the reopening of schools is set for September 6. On Friday, the Ministry of Education announced that a number of schools will be fully reopened for face-to-face classes while others will be reopened on a rotational basis.
