Woman, 59, dies from COVID; 176 new cases recorded

A 59-year-old woman of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) has been recorded as Guyana’s latest COVID-29 fatality, pushing the death toll to 611.

She succumbed on August 28 at a medical facility; there have now been 64 COVID-19 deaths recorded this month. Additionally, 176 new infections were recorded from 1,172 tests. This puts the country’s total confirmed cases at 25,323 since March 2020.

The new cases were recorded in Region One (two cases), Region Two (14 cases), Region Three (43 cases), Region Four (102 cases), Region Five (six cases), Region Six (two cases), Region Seven (four cases) and Region Ten (three cases).

There are now 26 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 105 patients are in institutional isolation and 1,703 are in home isolation.

To date, 22, 878 persons have recovered from the virus.
