More than 400 active ‘COVID’ cases in G/town

There are 409 active COVID-19 cases in and around Georgetown, while there are other worrying ‘hotspots’ in other communities across Guyana.

This was revealed by Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony during his daily COVID-19 update on Monday. In Georgetown, there are about 37 active cases in Campbellville, another 37 in Sophia and 29 in Kitty.

But, the Health Minister emphasised, “Almost every ward in Georgetown, we have cases that are active.” And, while providing the number of cases in Georgetown, he commented: “That’s quite a lot.”

Meanwhile, he also revealed that there are still a few hotspots across Guyana. In Region Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara) there are 35 cases in Tuschen and 23 in La Parfaite Harmonie.

Along the East Bank of Demerara (EBD), there are 50 active cases in Diamond, 44 in Grove and 28 in Timehri. While on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), there are 28 cases in Better Hope, 22 in Enmore and 21 in Mahaica.

Finally, he related that there are 27 cases in New Amsterdam, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) and 41 cases in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni).

“If these people are not isolating themselves, not wearing masks (and) not protecting others, a lot more (people) can be infected,” Dr. Anthony warned.

Meanwhile, he said that some 311,539 adults (or 60.7 per cent of the targeted adult population) have received at least their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while 160,649 people (or 31.3 per cent) have received both first and second doses.
