A ‘young love’ between a 26-year-old Lance Corporal of the Guyana Defence Force and a 23-year-old woman who was visiting from Barbados ended tragically on Wednesday night when they were both gunned down in ‘B’ Field Sophia, Georgetown by a lone gunman.

Dead are Daniel Fraser of ‘A’ Field Sophia and Sheniqua Hodge who was staying with a friend in South Sophia while on vacation here for the past three months.

Police Headquarters revealed that the two have been in a relationship for the past two weeks. On Wednesday night, they were imbibing at a shop in ‘C’ Field Sophia and at around 23:30hrs, they left to go home on Fraser’s motorcycle.

As they were heading west along last street ‘B’ Field Sophia, they were confronted by an unknown male who approached them from a northern direction on a bicycle who discharged six rounds in their direction.

The victims fell of the motorcycle and the gunman escaped. They were picked up by Fraser’s brother and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in a taxi where they were pronounced dead.

Police said Fraser received a gunshot wound to his chest while Hodge received three shots –  one to the chest, one to her right knee and one to the right side abdomen which exited the left side abdomen.

The bodies are currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination. No one has been arrested and investigations are ongoing.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Guyana Police Force initially identified the woman as Shanicka Forde but subsequently corrected it to Sheniqua Hodge.
