Couple arrested after ganja found in Martyr’s Ville yard

A 37-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested on Friday after 1, 012 grams of suspected marijuana were found in their yard at Martyr’s Ville, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters in a statement said based on information received, ranks on patrol visited the couple’s house at about 17:30hrs on Friday.

Police said an initial search was conducted on the woman where a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in her backpack. Nothing of evidential value was found on the man.

The ranks then searched their yard and found two black plastic bags which contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

They were both told of the offence committed, cautioned and arrested.

Investigations are ongoing.
