A 24-year-old Linden resident walked out of the Demerara High Court a free man on Tuesday after a 12-member jury found him not guilty of raping a 13-year-old schoolgirl.
Cliff David was on trial before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the Demerara High Court for the offence of rape of a child under the age of 16.
The girl had claimed that on March 15, 2019, she was at David’s house visiting his sister. However, as she was leaving, David allegedly grabbed her and took her to his room where he committed the act.
David had pleaded not guilty to the charge. The State was represented by prosecutor Latifah Elliot while David was represented by attorney Teriq Mohammed.
