‘I chop he up, because he de troubling me’ – son
A 26-year-old man who allegedly chopped his father to death Monday at Great Troolie Island (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), reportedly admitted to police that it was because his father was “troubling him”.
Dead is Archaelus Anthony Miguel, 59, a labourer of Onderneeming Housing Scheme on the Essequibo Coast.
Police Headquarters reported that when questioned about his father, the young man blurted out “I chop he up, because he de troubling me”.
The tragic incident occurred at about 14:30hrs on Monday at a backdam on the island. The son was initially arrested by citizens in the area and was later handed over to police.
Due to the geographical location of the island, police ranks had to travel miles to get there. When the police arrived at the scene, the suspect took them three miles into the backdam and showed them the spot where he chopped his father and later dragged the body and hid it under some branches.
The father was discovered with multiple chop wounds to the body and face; the body was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and officially pronounced dead. The remains are at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
Earlier on Monday, the police revealed that the father and son duo left for the backdam but the son returned, claiming of feeling unwell.
When asked about his father, he claimed that he left him in the backdam, however, checks for the father led to the discovery of his pants and a cell phone.
The 26-year-old son then travelled to Troolie Island where villagers further questioned him and he confessed to chopping his father several times.
The son was arrested and placed into custody.
