    There are 2, 422 active COVID-19 cases in Guyana with 161 new infections recorded within 24 hours. The new cases were recorded from 1, 728 tests, taking Guyana’s overall number of confirmed cases to 26, 772.

    Seven more persons, who were unvaccinated, also died between September 6 and 7, taking the death toll to 654. This also means that 29 persons died for the month of September thus far.

    The Ministry of Health reported that the deaths include six women, among them a 31-year-old along with a man. All of the patients are from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and died while receiving medical care, the ministry reported.

    The details on the persons who died are as follows;

    Of the 161 new cases recorded, 73 are from Region Four while Region Three recorded 49 new cases.

    The other cases were recorded in the following regions; Region One (one new case), Region Two (19 new cases), Region Five (eight new cases), Region Six (two new cases), Region Seven (three new cases), Region Nine (two new cases) and Region Ten (four new cases).

    There are 37 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 136 persons are in institutional isolation and 2, 249 are in home isolation.

    To date, 23, 696 persons have recovered from the virus.
