    Three women died on Tuesday after they were infected with the disease COVID-19, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday.

    The three fatalities are: an 81-year-old woman lived in Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica), a 36-year-old woman who lived in Region Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara) and a 45-year-old woman who also lived in Region Three.

    With these three deaths, the overall death toll has increased to 657 with 32 of those deaths recorded in the first week of September alone.

    Meanwhile, another 289 people were infected with COVID-19 over the past 24 hours. This takes the total number of infections recorded in Guyana to 27,061.

    These new cases were recorded from: Region One (four new cases); Region Two (16 cases); Region Three (48 cases); Region Four (179 cases); Region Five (seven cases); Region Six (15 cases); Region Seven (five cases); Region Eight (two cases); Region Nine (five cases); and Region 10 (eight cases).

    There are 36 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 131 in institutional isolation, 2,475 in home isolation and six in institutional quarantine.

    To date, 23,762 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
