Two more die from COVID; 240 new cases recorded

Two more persons – a 69-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman – both from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) died from the COVID-19 on September 8, taking the country’s death toll to 659. The latest fatatlities also means that for September thus far, 34 persons have died.

The Ministry of Health in a statement revealed that both patients died while receiving medical care.

Meanwhile, of the 240 new cases recorded on Thursday; of the total, 154 were recorded in Region Four. A number of communities in this region have been identified as COVID-19 hotspots. The new infections were recorded from 1, 777 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March 2020 to 27, 301.

The other cases were recorded in the following regions; Region Two (14 cases), Region Three (54 cases), Region Five (eight cases), Region Six (three new cases), Region Seven (four cases), Region Eight (one new case), Region Nine (one case) and Region Ten (one case).

There are 36 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital; 128 patients are in institutional isolation and 2, 504 are in home isolation. To date, 23, 974 persons have recovered from the virus.
