Father of newborn stabbed to death during robbery
A 36-year-old father of a newborn baby was tragically stabbed to death during an alleged robbery on Thursday night. Dead is Nelson Thomas, a gold miner of 4th Field, Kaneville, East Bank Demerara.
Police Headquarters reported that Thomas and his wife returned from the interior on Thursday to have the baby registered.
On Thursday at about 19:00hrs, Thomas told his mother that he was going to visit his uncle who lives two streets away.
Police said at about 21:30hrs, a resident claimed he awaken by someone calling his name and upon investigating, he found a bloodied Thomas lying motionless under a shed in his (the resident) yard.
The resident called the police and reported the matter at the Grove Police Station.
Police reported “it appears that the deceased was returning home when the suspect(s) attempted to rob him and stabbed him in the process.”
Thomas was later escorted to Diamond Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead and was later escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour awaiting an autopsy.
Investigations are ongoing.
