Youth stabbed to death at Lusignan Prison

A fight at the Lusignan Prison on the East Coast of Demerara on Sunday ended in the death of 23-year-old remand prisoner, Eijad Mohamed Ali.

A brief report from the police noted that Ali was housed in Holding Bay 2 along with several other prisoners; on Sunday, he was confronted by three inmates who accused him of stealing an improvised weapon (jukker). The said weapon was then taken away from the victim by one of the suspects.

A fight started between Ali and one of the suspects who stabbed him several times to the lower right abdomen.

Ali was taken to the Lusignan Prison Infirmary and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 18:10hrs.

The body is at the GPHC mortuary.
