Four more unvaccinated women die from COVID, 123 new cases recorded

Four women have died from COVID-19 on September 12 and 13, taking this month’s death toll to 62 thus far while the overall number of deaths recorded since March last year has increased to 687.

The latest fatalities according to the Ministry of Health are:

A 78-year-old of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara)

A 46-year-old also of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara)

A 62-year-old of Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice)

An 87-year-old of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica)

It was explained that the people were admitted as patients with COVID-19 like symptoms but died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical institutions. The samples were taken at the time of their admission and subsequently returned as positive tests.

Moreover, the Ministry of Health said that the four women were all unvaccinated. This now adds to the number of unvaccinated Guyanese succumbing to the dreaded virus. For last week alone, 36 persons who were unvaccinated, died.

Meanwhile, another 123 people were infected with the novel coronavirus over a 24-hour period. This means that there have now been 28,099 infections since March 2020.

These new infections were recorded in: Region One (four cases), Region Two (12 cases), Region Three (13 cases), Region Four (71 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (two cases), Region Seven (two cases), Region Eight (11 cases) and Region 10 (five cases).

There are now 26 patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU); 153 people are in institutional isolation, 3,011 people are in home isolation and 16 are in institutional quarantine. Importantly, a total of 24, 222 people have recovered to date after they were COVID-19.
