Police hunting suspect who allegedly set wife on fire during argument
Police are on the hunt for a taxi driver who reportedly set his wife on fire during an argument at their Corentyne, Berbice house in the wee hours of Monday.
The News Room was reliably informed that Ganesh Sewcharran, who is reportedly known to abuse his wife, is attempting to flee the country. Reports indicate that late Sunday night, the man and his wife were engaged in an argument during which she threw kerosene on her body. It is further alleged that Sewcharran took the lighter from his wife and lit the bottom of her dress.
The woman reacted by rolling on the ground, effectively extinguishing the fire. By that time, however, she received burns all over her body.
Subsequently, she was rushed to Port Mourant Public Hospital where she was examined by a doctor on duty and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. There, she was admitted as a patient and is in a critical condition.
Officers visited the couple’s house but Sewcharran has not yet been seen or contacted. Investigations are ongoing.
