President hands over maintenance equipment for Ground Enhancement Programme

President Irfaan Ali on Thursday handed over the first batch of 17 driving lawn mowers and 17 brushcutters towards the government’s Ground Enhancement programme, which is being executed through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

The presentation was done at the National Stadium, Providence.
President Ali was accompanied by Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr., Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Kashif Muhammad, among others.

Minister Ramson Jr. explained that of the $10m allocated to each of the 25 grounds for enhancement, the Ministry utilised one million to purchase maintenance equipment.

The Minister also indicated that persons will be trained to use the equipment correctly.

Ramson Jr., had visited all three counties with his team to conduct assessment needs of the key community grounds, and some have already benefited from the $10 million grant.

Additionally, the Minister indicated several community grounds will be transformed into mini-parks through the Ministry’s ground enhancement project.

The grounds would also be designed to cater for older residents to utilise for leisure and social purposes.

In June, the National Assembly had approved $186.4 million to facilitate more infrastructural works through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s Ground Enhancement Programme.
