Unvaccinated man, fully vaccinated woman die from COVID

A 60-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman have been recorded as Guyana’s latest COVID-19 deaths. The man and woman, who are both from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), died on September 15, 2021, taking the overall number of deaths to 703.

For September thus far, 78 persons have died.

The Ministry of Health, in a statement, said both patients died while receiving medical care at a facility. The woman was fully vaccinated and had comorbidities, while the man was unvaccinated.

Meanwhile, 299 new COVID cases was recorded on Thursday from a total of 1,794 tests taking the total number of confirmed cases since March 2020 to 28,831.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions: Region One (eight cases), Region Two (22 cases), Region Three (50 cases), Region Four (157 cases), Region Five (12 cases), Region Six (eight cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Eight (23 cases), Region Nine (three cases) and Region Ten (15 cases).

There are 34 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 156 persons are in institutional isolation and 3,182 are in home isolation.

To date, 24,756 persons have recovered from the virus.
