Biker charged for not wearing helmet; unregistered motorbike detained by GRA

A biker, who police identified as 31-year-old Randy Branche, is currently under investigation after it was found that the bike he was riding was never registered with the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).

According to the police, Brache of Lodge Housing Scheme, Georgetown, was arrested on Friday last around 10:00hrs while crossing the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

He was the driver of motorcycle #CH 3417, but was arrested for not wearing a safety helmet.

He was escorted to La Grange Police Station where he was issued with a ticket for the offence and the motorcycle was examined in his presence by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.

It was observed that the chassis number on the motorcycle did not correspond with that on the registration. Branche was told of the observation and the motorcycle was lodged for further investigation.

On Monday, a supervisor from the Guyana Revenue Authority enforcement section along with two other personnel came and examined the said motorcycle and it was found that the motorcycle was not registered with GRA.

As a result, they uplifted the motorcycle and took it to GRA’s warehouse.

Investigations are ongoing.
