Eight more COVID deaths; 30 in ICU, 130 new infections

Guyana has recorded an additional eight COVID-19 related deaths, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday. Of that number, six of the deaths were unvaccinated, one partially vaccinated, and other unknown.

The new deaths are two men (ages 70 and 62) from Region Four; two women (ages 74 and 69) also from Region Four; two men (ages 56 and 58) from Region Three; and two 50-year-old women from Region Two and Region Five.

This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 733 and it also means for the first 20 days of September, a total of 108 persons have died thus far.

It also reflects the highest number of deaths recorded in a single month since the pandemic hit these shores in March 2020.

Additionally, 130 new COVID-19 infections were recorded from a total of 1,063 tests, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 29,683.

The new cases were reported in the following regions: Region One (one case), Region Two (20 cases), Region Three (16 cases), Region Four (72 cases), Region Five (four cases), Region Six (four cases), Region Seven (11 cases), and Region Eight (two cases).

To date, 25,255 persons have recovered from the dreaded virus.

There are 30 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 160 are in institutional isolation, and 3,505 are in home isolation.
