Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 67-year-old Ramchan Rampersaud of Britannica, West Coast Berbice, who dropped dead on the public road at about 14:25hrs on Wednesday.
Police reported that Rampersaud’s nephew, Jaigoram said they were working in the backdam when Rampersaud complained of feeling unwell and left to go home at about 13:30hrs.
Jaigoram said he decided to follow behind but found Rampersaud lying motionless on the public road.
Police ranks said they received information from an anonymous caller that a man had fallen dead on the road.
But when the ranks arrived at the scene, the body was already removed and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital.
Police said an autopsy is expected to be conducted soon as investigations are ongoing.
