Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony on Friday revealed that there are 4, 095 active COVID-19 cases in all regions of Guyana; a majority of the cases are in Region Three (Essequibo-Islands, West Demerara) and Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

Dr Anthony, during his daily COVID-19 update on Friday, stated that there are 1, 083 active cases in Region Three and 2, 204 active cases in Region Four.

Hotspot communities in Region Three include Tuschen, Parfaite Harmonie, Crane, Pouderoyen, Cornelia Ida, Santa Mission, Zeelugt, Vreed-en-Hoop and La Grange; the hotspot communities in Region Four include Mon Repos, Good Hope, Haslington, Lusignan and Plaisance on the East Coast of Demerara along with Kitty, Sophia, South Ruimveldt, Lodge, Campbellville, Cummings Lodge and Turkeyen in Georgetown.

Meanwhile, 167 people are hospitalised with COVID-19 across the country; of that number, 102 are at the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal in Georgetown with 33 patients receiving treatment in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

Additionally, 21 pregnant women have tested positive for the virus with 15 hospitalised at the Infectious Diseases Hospital and six at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Dr Anthony stated that there have been an increase in positive infections in pregnant women and, so, he is urging pregnant women to get vaccinated, noting that the vaccine has been proven safe and effective in pregnant and lactating women.

To date, 68.8 per cent of the adult population received their first dose of a vaccine while 35.6 per cent are fully vaccinated. As it relates to the vaccination rollout in children aged 12 to 18, 29.9 per cent received their first dose and just over 300 received their second dose.

Dr Anthony also revealed that a mere 104 doses of Johnson and Johnson single dose vaccine have been administered.
