Motorcyclist, 69, killed in Berbice collision

Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on the Palmyra Public Road, East Canje, Berbice, on Monday.

Dead is Abdool Rahim, 69, of Lot 102 ‘A’ Woodley Park, West Coast Berbice.

Rahim was driving motorcycle CF 4743, owned by Syed Ali of Pilot Street, New Amsterdam. The driver of the car HC 8500 is presently in police custody.

Reports are that the accident occurred just around 10:30hrs on Monday.

The News Room understands that Rahim was proceeding south along the eastern lane ahead of the taxi when the driver of the car attempted to overtake Rahim, but ended up colliding with the right side of the motorcycle.

As a result, Rahim pitched off the motorcycle and landed on the car windshield before falling to the road surface. He sustained severe head injuries. One of his feet was almost severed.

The police were immediately contacted, while Rahim was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The body was later escorted to the Arokium Funeral Home, and is now awaiting an autopsy.

The driver who remained at the scene was taken into custody and a breathalyser test found no presence of alcohol.
