There are some 21 pregnant or new mothers infected with COVID-19 currently while there are pockets of infected people all across Guyana, according to the Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony.
During his daily COVID-19 update on Tuesday, the Health Minister related that there are about 3,992 active cases across Guyana. These active cases refer to people who are currently infected with the novel coronavirus.
Of that number, 131 people are in hospitals or medical facilities receiving treatment because they have been experiencing the more serious and severe symptoms of COVID-19. Further, 31 of those people are receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“(In) all the regions, there are a number of cases,” Dr. Anthony said.
Providing a breakdown of the spread of COVID-19, he said that Tuschen, Parfaite Harmonie, Crane, Vreed-en-Hoop and Patentia are among the communities in Region Three with a number of people infected.
In Region Four, there are many infected people in Diamond, Grove, Eccles, Mon Repos, Good Hope, Sophia, Kitty and Cummings Lodge. Bath (Region Five), Bartica (Region Seven), Aishalton (Region Nine) and Wismar (Region 10) also have numerous infected people.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s vaccination rollout is continuing. So far, 356,062 adults have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while 184,941 have received both their first and second dose.
Additionally, some 23,237 children older than 12 have received Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.
