Police are on the hunt for two men who reportedly robbed a 34-year-old taxi driver at gunpoint of two cell phones and his car key. The incident occurred in Festival City, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown on Monday night.
According to a police report, at about 22:00hrs, the taxi driver was proceeding along the Plaisance East Coast Demerara Public Road in his silver 212 motorcar (HD 336) when he picked up the two suspects.
The men requested to be taken to a hotel in Festival City.
While in Festival City, one of the suspects – who was seated in the front passenger seat – pulled out a gun, pointed it at the driver and relieved him of the items. The suspect, who was seated behind the driver, also choked him, police reported.
The suspects then escaped on foot. Police said checks made in the area came up empty-handed.
Investigations are ongoing.
