Woman, 40, among 6 additional COVID deaths; another 123 people infected

A 40-year-old woman from Region Five (Mahaica- Berbice) is among six additional COVID-19 deaths reported from September 26 to 28. The Ministry of Health reported that this woman died on Monday; she was not vaccinated.

Earlier on Tuesday, the News Room reported that the former Director of the Department of Public Information (DPI) Imran Khan has succumbed to COVID-19 eight days after he was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal, Georgetown.

Khan, 43, was also listed as one of the six deaths. .The details on the latest fatalities are below:

With these deaths, 153 deaths have been recorded in September while a total of 778 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded since March 2020.

Meanwhile, another 123 people were infected with SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19. These new infections take the total number of infections recorded since March 2020 to 31, 359.

These new cases were recorded in: Region One (four new cases), Region Three (17 cases), Region Four (77 cases), Region Five (four cases), Region Six (10 cases), Region Seven (one case) and Region Nine (11 cases).

It is important to note, however, that a change has been made from Monday’s dashboard. One of the new infections that was recorded in Region 10 has now been reassigned to another region, and as such, that region’s total has increased by one. The News Room has not received clarity on which region that is.

There are also 31 patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 10 people in institutional quarantine, 137 in institutional isolation and 3,774 people in home isolation.

Importantly, a total of 26,639 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
